* AmigaWorld *
created by Wolfgang Lug
program history, known bugs & future plans
History
=======
Version 1.0 o The first working and useful version of AmigaWorld.
(01-jan-1993) Published as a freeware version with some limitations
[Fish #804] on AmigaLibDisk #804.
Version 1.01 o Added manual selection/deselection of countries (with the
(24-mar-1993) right mouse button)
[internal] o Most menu selections are restored after changing font, screen
mode or language.
o Some internal improvements that are not visible to the user.
Version 1.02 o Invented code numbers for the countries. See the chapter
(28-mar-1993) 'awo.data' in the documentation file for details.
o Some minor optical bugs were fixed.
Version 1.03 o AmigaWorld does now also contain Swedish data files. They
(01-apr-1993) were written by Bo Arnholm of Mölndal near Gothenburg.
Thank you Bo!
Version 1.1 o Added data about currencies.
(07-apr-1993) o AmigaWorld can now also express itself in Dutch. The Dutch
[Fish #851] data files were created by Ruud Hoekzema of Driebergen
near Utrecht. Thank you, Ruud!
o The numbers that appear in the country window are now
displayed as groups of three figures. That makes them
more readable.
o Fixed a bug that caused the program to terminate when you
changed from a language with a long name to a language
with a short name.
(e.g. "Nederlands" (10 chars) -> "Deutsch" (7 chars))
o Removed the menu short cuts. They seemed quite useless to me
in the end.
Version 1.11 o Fixed a bug that caused the program to quit if you tried to
(13-arp-1993) use a font with a name longer than 10 chars.
o Fixed a bug that made topaz font look rather strange if you
had already used another font before.
o If there are open country windows when you change language,
font, or screen mode, the country windows are adapted to
your new selections.
o You can close info and config windows via the keyboard now:
Press return to confirm changes or any other key to undo
and exit.
o The width of the menus in the screen title bar is adapted to
the length of the texts they contain, making the Swedish
version look better.
Version 2.0 o The flags of all independent countries and some dependencies
(13-jun-1993) are displayed together with the other data.
o The religions which are most common in a country are listed.
o AmigaWorld tells you about membership in important inter-
national organisations (independent countries only).
o You can also get a short description and all members of these
organisations by selecting the menu item "Search for" /
"Organisation".
o The data about languages has become more precise.
o AmigaWorld first calculates the size of a country window and
THEN opens it. No more giant windows that are shrinked
later on!
o If the data about a country is already displayed, you cannot
open its window again.
o Minor optical improvements, e.g. in the window that pops up
when an error occurs in the country data.
o The freeware and the full functional version use the same
output file now. The few different output texts are held
internaly.
o Every text in 'awo.data' had a maximum length of 80 chars in
older versions. Now those texts that are displayed in the
country window can be 120 chars long, the other ones (for
the search funtcion) only 30 chars long. That's why some
data became more precise, without eating up more memory.
o A new country is born: Welcome, Eritrea!
Known bugs
==========
Since I've implemented flag display, AmigaWorld eats up 80 Bytes of memory
every time you open a country window. This memory is not deallocated later
on. I don't have any idea why this happens because I did not program the
IFF routines myself.
Plans for the future
====================
o More information about the countries, e.g.
- political system
- ruler
- cities
- important economic branches
o A ten line history for each county. This is actually not my idea but Bo
Arnholm's who has even volunteered and already started to write these
short stories!
o Option to print out the data about a country.
o A map for each country,
either computed with the CIA's WorldDataBank or as an IFF-picture.
(won't be finished until 2010, I'm afraid)
o Selecting countries by clicking them on a map. (coming 2020 or so)
o Opportunity to use a screen with 16 colors: 8 colors for flags/maps (not
changeable) and 8 selectalbe colors for the usual display.
